LISHE - nutrition not only for the little ones
We all know that a balanced and varied diet is one of the basic conditions for the healthy development and growth of children. But not all mothers can afford to give their children a diet that provides them with the necessary nutrients. Many children grow up on Ugali maize porridge, which forms the basis of their daily menu. And although locals believe this food gives energy and strength to even the hardest working men, and apparently it does, children simply need much more. On the local market there is a specially blended mixture for the preparation of porridge, rather a very thick drink that will provide children with at least a part of the necessary nutrients. This mixture usually consists of ground mungo beans, beans, wheat, soya, sesame, millet, peanuts, pumpkin seeds, corn or other legumes and cereals. We intend to regularly supply the youngest children from the neediest families with this mixture to prepare LISHE and do our bit for their healthy development and growth. However, we will not buy the mixture, but will prepare it ourselves. After we have bought the different legumes and cereals, we will sort them carefully like Cinderellas, wash them, dry them on the sun, and then let them mill and finally mix them and pack them. In this way we will be 100% sure of what is in the porridge and how it was made. We are going to make the first batch this year during April and May.
